Randolph Community College’s 2012 Curriculum Graduation ceremony
celebrated the school’s 50th Anniversary with three special graduation
speakers and the participation of 50 alumni graduates who robed and led
the processional.
Keynote speakers for the ceremony
were Dr. R. Scott Ralls, president of the North Carolina Community
College System; North Carolina Senator Jerry Tillman; and Dr. Stuart B.
Fountain, vice chair of the State Board of Community Colleges. Also
making brief remarks was Dr. Lacy M. Presnell Jr., former Randolph
County Schools superintendent (1961-1969) and the keynote speaker at
RCC’s first formal graduation in 1964.
Dr. Robert
S. Shackleford Jr., RCC president, gave the welcome, and Shane Bryson,
Student Government Association president, made opening remarks.
The Curriculum ceremony took place at 7 p.m., May 9, at Asheboro High
School gymnasium with approximately 223 students walking in the ceremony
out of 459 associate degree, diploma, and certificate candidates this
year.
The conferring of the degrees, diplomas and
certificates was handled by F. Mac Sherrill, chairman of the RCC Board
of Trustees. Faculty marshals for the 2012 ceremony were Jennifer L.
Macy, Maria B. LeBaron, and Patrick Pardee.
RCC Student Ambassadors M. Todd Allman, Robert J. Cheek, Albert M. Jones, and Jon K. Tostoe served as graduation marshals.
