Notary Public Course Set for Feb. 16 & 18 at RCC Randleman Center

Randolph Community College will offer a Notary Public Education course on Tuesday and Thursday, Feb. 16 and 18, at the Randleman Center. This class is required for individuals interested in obtaining a North Carolina commission as a notary public.

The purpose of a notary is to prevent fraud and forgery. In this course, you will learn what you may and may not do as a notary public. Students must be 18 years of age or legally emancipated; speak, read, and write English; possess a high school diploma or equivalent; and live or work in the state. A textbook is required and will be available for purchase at the first class.

The class will meet from 6-9:30 p.m. both evenings at the Randleman Center, which is located at 100 Hilliary Street. The registration fee is $70, plus $28.25 for the textbook.

Four RCC Employees Complete 11th President’s Leadership Academy

Four Randolph Community College employees completed the requirements of the President’s Educational Leadership Academy in the fall semester at RCC.

This is the 11th class to participate in the Academy, which is designed to help develop employee leadership skills. Employees participating this spring were Angela R. Bare, administrative assistant for the Health Sciences and Cosmetic Arts Division; Steve Maness, instructor, Computer-Integrated Machining; Selina Moore, development specialist; and Isai Robledo, coordinator of cooperative and innovative high school programs/advisory committee liaison.

RCC Honors Outstanding Faculty and Staff Member, Employee Years of Service at Spring Convocation

Randolph Community College honored Garret Parker as its 2016 Excellence in Teaching award winner and Joyce W. Wolford as the 2016 Staff Person of the Year during its Spring Convocation held Jan. 8 in the R. Alton Cox Learning Resources Center auditorium.

The Excellence in Teaching winner, Garret B. Parker, earned his Associate in Applied Science degree in Machining Technology from RCC in spring 1999 and joined RCC as a full-time instructor in fall 2000. He was named department head for the Computer-Integrated Machining program in 2011.

Randolph Community College Foundation Seeks Applicants for Presidential Scholar Program

The Randolph Community College Foundation will award two-year RCC scholarships to five high school seniors in Randolph County in 2016 through its Presidential Scholar program. The students will be chosen in a competitive process that includes an application packet and interviews, according to Joyce Wolford, director of foundation operations. This is the fifth year of the program.

High school seniors who live in Randolph County and attend a Randolph County public, private, or home school are invited to apply. To be considered, students must plan to enroll at RCC in the fall of 2016, have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0, participate in extracurricular/community activities, and submit an application packet (application, two recommendations, and high school transcript) by 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 12.

Free Pesticide License Course Set for RCC Jan. 7-8

Randolph Community College is co-hosting an “Initial Pesticide License Study Prep Course” for commercial and private applicators on Thursday and Friday, Jan. 7 and 8 from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

This is a free opportunity for those in landscaping, horticulture, and farming. Along with RCC, the course is co-sponsored by the North Carolina Cooperative Extension in Randolph County, the North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Conservation, and the Randolph Soil & Water Conservation District.

The course will meet in rooms 106 and 108 of the Continuing Education and Industrial Center on the Asheboro Campus. For more information and to register, please call 336-318-6000.
