Randolph Community College’s ESTC Hosts Tactical Tracker School, Tactical Defense Academy

Randolph County and Asheboro City police officers and National Guardsmen from as far away as Indiana benefited from some unique training opportunities at Randolph Community College’s Emergency Services Training Center this week.

Twenty-four members of the Indiana National Guard were in Asheboro for two weeks to take part in Tactical Mantracking for Law Enforcement, Level I and Level II, training with Lawrence Wilkinson, president of the Tactical Tracker Training School in Angier, N.C.
The National Guardsmen stayed in local hotels and ate at local restaurants, contributing to the economy, noted Paul Goins, RCC’s Basic Law Enforcement Training director and coordinator of continuing education criminal justice classes. “The county’s investment in this training facility is paying off,” he said. Goins said the training focuses on giving members of the armed forces, law enforcement, homeland security, and search/recovery personnel the skills and confidence to track in any terrain.

In addition, Asheboro Police Department officers, Randolph County Sheriff’s Office deputies and several other agencies took part in a Tactical Defense Academy at the ESTC using a 180-degree virtual shooting simulator. The simulator replicates real-life deadly force situations utilizing hundreds of different possible scenarios. Users wear a belt that “shocks” them if they sustain virtual wounds. Verbal interaction with the computer system can determine scenario outcomes.
