"Understanding Addiction," an upcoming
continuing education course scheduled to begin at Randolph Community
College on Jan. 20, will focus on the process of addiction, the causes,
the stages of development, and the consequences of the disease. It will
also explore the in-depth shame, fear, and isolation that addiction
creates among addicts and alcoholic persons. Pam Wiggins, who has 28
years of experience in the fields of human services and addictions, will
be the instructor for this course offered by RCC's Workforce
Development and Continuing Education Division.
The course will meet from 5:30-8:45 p.m. on Tuesdays,
Jan. 20 through March 10. It offers 2.4 CE credit hours, approved by the
North Carolina Substance Abuse Professional Practice Board.
Participation would be beneficial for social workers, professional
counselors, psychiatrists, psychologists, law enforcement
representatives, hospital personnel, therapists, educators, nurses, and
nursing assistants.
