Thirteen students graduated from Randolph Community College’s sixth
annual Student Leadership Academy on March 19. The students were chosen
for the Academy based on a competitive process that considered
leadership experience, leadership potential, and a letter of reference
from a faculty member.
Steve Eblin, CEO of
Randolph Hospital, was the keynote speaker at Tuesday’s graduation
ceremony held in the R. Alton Cox Learning Resources Center auditorium.
Eblin talked to the graduates about his own “Seven Laws of Leadership,”
which included hiring the right people and hiring for attitude. “A
positive attitude is contagious,” he told the students, “and so is a
negative attitude.” He also talked about building trust among your team;
creating a vision and building a passion for it; recognizing that
people are different and need to be lead and coached differently; making
it as easy as possible for people to do their jobs by knocking down
barriers; and realizing that when there is a mistake, it is almost
always due to a process or the environment and not a person’s abilities.
