Randolph Community College has four pieces of art included in the 16th
North Carolina Community Colleges Art Exhibition now on display at the
Caswell Building in downtown Raleigh.
One hundred
and thirty-nine pieces of artwork from 44 North Carolina community
colleges are featured throughout the six-story building, and the exhibit
includes a wide variety of media ranging from paintings and sculpture,
to functional pieces such as lamps and jewelry. This exhibition is
particularly unique because it also celebrates the 50th anniversary of
the North Carolina Community College System. Several submissions to the
two-year exhibit showcase the history of community colleges in North
Carolina.

Thirteen Complete 6th Randolph Community College Student Leadership Academy
Thirteen students graduated from Randolph Community College’s sixth
annual Student Leadership Academy on March 19. The students were chosen
for the Academy based on a competitive process that considered
leadership experience, leadership potential, and a letter of reference
from a faculty member.
Steve Eblin, CEO of Randolph Hospital, was the keynote speaker at Tuesday’s graduation ceremony held in the R. Alton Cox Learning Resources Center auditorium. Eblin talked to the graduates about his own “Seven Laws of Leadership,” which included hiring the right people and hiring for attitude. “A positive attitude is contagious,” he told the students, “and so is a negative attitude.” He also talked about building trust among your team; creating a vision and building a passion for it; recognizing that people are different and need to be lead and coached differently; making it as easy as possible for people to do their jobs by knocking down barriers; and realizing that when there is a mistake, it is almost always due to a process or the environment and not a person’s abilities.

Randolph Community College Hosting Nontraditional Career Night March 21
Randolph Community College is inviting women to “kick off their heels
and get their hands dirty” and men to learn “why it’s not a woman’s
world anymore” at an event for the genders to learn about nontraditional
career paths. Both genders are invited to check out what is available
at Randolph Community College on Thursday, March 21, from 6-8 p.m.
The United States Department of Labor defines a nontraditional occupation as one in which individuals from one gender comprise 25 percent or less of total employment. Growth in the economy is projected to expand in many of these occupations and there will be strong demand for workers in many of these fields due to projected retirements. For example, in the machining field, where workers are in high demand with great salary potential, women only comprised 6.9% of the workers in 2008.
On March 21, the ladies are asked to gather at the Continuing Education & Industrial Center, 413 Industrial Park Avenue, and/or the Richard Petty Education Center, 704 Industrial Park Avenue, to learn about Automotive Systems Technology, Collision Repair & Refinishing Technology, Computer-Integrated Machining, Electrical Systems Technology, Industrial Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, and Welding Technology.
The gentlemen can learn about RCC programs like Associate Degree Nursing, Cosmetology, Early Childhood Education, Medical Assisting, Medical Office Administration, Nursing Assistant, Office Administration, and Radiography at RCC’s Cosmetology Center, 1003 S. Fayetteville Street, or the Health & Science Center, 629 Industrial Park Avenue, on the Asheboro Campus.
Faculty members of these programs will be available to answer questions about program requirements and job outlooks. For more information, contact Melinda Eudy, RCC dean of curriculum programs, at 336-633-0227 or maeudy@randolph.edu.
