Randolph Community College Health Fair and Career Day Planned for April 29

Are you interested in a health care career? Learn about Randolph Community College's health care educational programs and potential jobs at the Health Fair and Career Day on Wednesday, April 29, at the Health & Science Center on the Asheboro Campus.

During the Health Fair and Career Day, potential students can learn about RCC's Associate Degree Nursing, Medical Assisting, Radiography, and Nursing Assistant programs. The college's training labs will be open for tours and demonstrations, instructors and college personnel will be on hand to answer questions, plus there will be representatives on-site from several health care facilities with information on potential jobs in the area.

Lab tours and employers will be available from 9 a.m.-12 noon; lab tours only from 5-7 p.m., in room 104 of the Health & Science Center, RCC Asheboro Campus, 629 Industrial Park Avenue. For more information, contact RCC at 336-633-0264.

RCC Archdale Center Adds Photography, Furniture Rehab Courses

Randolph Community College's Archdale Center is bringing back two Continuing Education courses due to popular demand.

"Digital Camera Photography," a crash course on the basics of using your digital camera, will be held from 1-4 p.m. on Tuesdays, April 21 - June 2. This class includes taking pictures; storing images; sharing photos; scanning photos; and using the zoom, flash and shutter buttons. Students should being their cameras to class. Registration cost is $46.

In addition, two new sections of "Furniture Rehab 101: Transforming Old Pieces" have been scheduled. A chalk finish paint—which requires very little prep work and is easy to use even for the beginning refurbisher—will be used in this class.

Isaac Ferguson Named 2015 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Bronze Scholar

Isaac Ferguson of Liberty, a second-year Associate in Arts/Associate in Science (College Transfer) student at Randolph Community College, has been named a 2015 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Bronze Scholar. The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team program by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars, and providing nearly $200,000 in scholarships annually. Each Bronze Scholar receives a $1,000 scholarship and a special medallion.

RCC's Lipman Chosen to Visit Stennis Space Center This Spring

Randolph Community College student Laramie Lipman of Asheboro, who was chosen earlier this spring to compete in NASA's Community College Aerospace Scholars program, has been selected to travel to NASA's John C. Stennis Space Center in Mississippi in May for an on-site experience. Established in the early 1960s, Stennis Space Center has grown into the nation's largest rocket engine test facility. The center is home to NASA's Rocket Propulsion Test Program Office.

Fourteen Students Complete 8th Randolph Community College Student Leadership Academy

Fourteen students graduated from Randolph Community College’s eighth annual Student Leadership Academy on March 24. The students were chosen for the Academy based on a competitive process that considered leadership experience, leadership potential, and a letter of reference from a faculty member.

Registration for RCC Summer Session Begins Early April

First-year college students or those planning on starting next fall can pick up some general education credits in Randolph Community College's eight-week summer session beginning May 26. Registration for these classes begins April 6 for current RCC students and April 13 for new or visiting students.

Options include developmental and first-year English courses, economics, history, psychology, sociology, biology, chemistry, and math. Classes begin May 26 and end July 27.

These classes are convenient for students studying at other universities who might be home in Asheboro for their summer break and need transfer credits for missing classes or those who need to retake a subject. These courses are categorized by the North Carolina Community College System as Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) courses and will easily transfer back to the student's home school.

RCC To Host Veterans Benefits Fair April 8

Randolph Community College's Office of Financial Aid and Veterans Affairs will host its annual Veterans Benefits Fair from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 8 in the Foundation Conference Center on the Asheboro Campus. Veterans will be able to find information on health care, VA loans, counseling, employment, and more at the event, which is open to RCC students and the public.

"Randolph Community College prides itself on being a military friendly school," said Cathy Aikens, RCC financial aid specialist & VA certifying official. "It is our desire to bring important information to this area that can benefit those who served our country."

Several guests will be on hand to answer questions and give out information, including the following: the Rural Health Program of Salisbury; Winston-Salem VBA; Terry Van Vliet/Veteran Services officer; Greensboro Veterans Center and its mobile unit; Gene Dickey of Home Fires Burning; SSgt. Cory Renna, Marine Corps recruiter; Randolph County Career Center; and the American Legion.

RCC's Asheboro Campus is located at 629 Industrial Park Avenue. Take the McDowell Road exit from Highway 220/I73-74 and follow the signs.
