Randolph Community College Adds “Beginning Ukulele” Course Beginning April 9

Randolph Community College will offer a “Beginning Ukulele” course for the first time this spring, taught by Walter Matthew Hoover, a professional musician and teacher for the past 30 years.

The ukulele is a very enjoyable and approachable instrument that is charming and easy on the fingers, according to Hoover. Its popularity is on the rise due to such acts as Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, Twenty One Pilots, and Grace VanderWaal using it in their mainstream pop music (among others). In this class, students will learn the basic techniques, note reading, and chord structures.

The class (#65959) will meet from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Mondays, April 9 through June 18 in Room 223 of the Continuing Education and Industrial Center on the Asheboro Campus. The cost is $150. The textbook, “Hal Leonard Ukulele Method Book 1,” is required. For more information or to register, contact RCC’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division at 336-633-0268.
