Kayla Spinks
Beta Theta Rho, Randolph Community College’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, received its Five-Star Chapter award for the 14th year in a row at the 2017 Phi Theta Kappa Carolinas Regional Convention in Durham, N.C., on March 11. The Five Star level is the highest level that a chapter can obtain, and it encourages excellence and recognizes progress in the attainment of goals set by the chapter.

Beta Theta Rho also received five other awards as a chapter: Distinguished Chapter Officer Team; Outstanding Participation in Carolinas Region Service Program “Purse Project”; Outstanding Participation in Carolinas Region Honors in Action Program; Distinguished College Project; and Honorable Mention for Distinguished Chapter.

The 2016 Beta Theta Rho officer team consisted of Jahmina Ollison, president; Taylor Maness, vice president; Zeno Phu, treasurer; Nicholas LaPlant, public relations; and Lilith Ward, secretary.

One member of Beta Theta Rho, Kayla Spinks, was also honored with two awards. Spinks, a Randolph Early College High School student, received the Distinguished Chapter Member award and was also inducted into the Carolinas Region Hall of Honor.
