Randolph Community College’s next Firefighter Academy, for ages 18
and above, will begin Tuesday, Jan. 17, at RCC’s Emergency Services
Training Center. Students will train Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m.
to 5 p.m., from Jan. 17 through May.
This program, which prepares students for employment as a
firefighter, is 614 hours and covers all topics required by the N.C.
Fire Commission for certification. It also covers the requirements for
HazMat Operations and N.C. Technical Rescuer. There is a required
physical training aspect to this class. When completed, students
affiliated with a department are certified as N.C. Firefighters. On a
space-available basis, volunteer firefighters can take individual topics
for certification.
