Randolph Community College will be offering several real estate courses beginning in February and March at the Asheboro Campus.
“General Real Estate Update” fulfills the annual continuing education credit for Real Estate Brokers as mandated by the North Carolina Real Estate Commission. The Commission changes the subject matter of this course each year. The course will be offered from 8 a.m.-12 noon on Thursday, Feb. 9, in Room 103 of the Continuing Education and Industrial Center (CEIC) on the Asheboro Campus. The cost is $45.

Understanding Generations Workshop Set for Feb. 15 at Randolph Community College
As a human resources professional or manager, do you struggle to
understand employees of different or younger generations? Randolph
Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education
Division is offering a new course titled “Five Generations @Work: Attracting, Engaging and Retaining Young People”
on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. in Room 148 of the
Continuing Education and Industrial Center on the Asheboro Campus.
This eight-hour workshop is designed to help human resource leaders and managers develop an understanding of younger generations including how to recruit, engage and retain them. The class format is very flexible with open discussions and group work to apply context to participants’ organizations.

“Trinity’s Fascinating Past” Course Set for Feb. 7 at RCC Archdale
Randolph Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing
Education Division is offering a unique look at the city of Trinity with
a new course in February. “Trinity’s Fascinating Past” will cover some
interesting facts and fables about the city.
Students will join former Trinity Mayor Fran Andrews to learn the history of Trinity College and the locations of Civil War trail markers, the Trinity Cemetery grave of a professor who helped develop the atomic bomb, and a slave cemetery.
The class will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 7, in Room 307 of the Archdale Center. The cost is only $10, and refreshments will be provided.

RCC Honors Outstanding Faculty and Staff Member, Employee Years of Service at Spring Convocation

The Excellence in Teaching winner, Dolores Vargas-Benavides, started out at RCC in the English as a Second Language program when she emigrated to the United States from Mexico. She earned her high school equivalency diploma at RCC and began to take curriculum classes. With some encouragement from her instructors, Vargas-Benavides decided to continue her education at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, eventually earning her Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. She went on to earn her Master of Arts in Spanish from North Carolina State University, and she is currently working on her Ph.D. in Educational Studies with a specialization in Cultural Studies at UNCG.

Fundamentals of Drawing and Cartooning Course to start Jan. 31 at Randolph Community College
Randolph Community College is offering a new course for would-be artists
beginning this month. “Fundamentals of Drawing and Cartooning”
introduces the basics of drawing and creating caricatures and cartoon
characters. The course will meet from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and
Thursdays, Jan. 31 – March 23, in Room 117 of the Continuing Education
and Industrial Center on the Asheboro Campus.

RCC Courses Beginning in January Include Auto Body Repair, Electrical Tech, and Pharmacy Tech
Randolph Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division will offer training for a variety of occupations in January, with three classes beginning Monday, Jan. 23. Those courses are Auto Body Repair Basics, Basic Electrical Technician I, and Pharmacy Technician.
“Auto Body Repair Basics” is designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the auto body repair field. Students will be taught how to identify and describe the current types of body/frame construction; evaluate vehicle damage through proper application of measuring and gauging equipment and sequencing techniques; and return vehicle to pre-accident condition. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge base to perform hands-on repairs in the areas of non-structural repairs, MIG welding, plastics and adhesives, refinishing, and other related areas. The course will meet from 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays, Jan. 23 – May 1, in the Richard Petty Education Center. The cost is $180.55.

RCC Foundation Seeks Applicants for Presidential Scholar Program; Deadline is Feb. 17
The Randolph Community College Foundation will award two-year RCC
scholarships to five high school seniors in Randolph County in 2017
through its Presidential Scholar program. The students will be chosen in
a competitive process that includes an application packet and
interviews, according to Joyce Wolford, director of foundation
operations. This is the sixth year of the program.
High school seniors who live in Randolph County and attend a Randolph County public, private, or home school are invited to apply. To be considered, students must plan to enroll at RCC in the fall of 2017, have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0, participate in extracurricular/community activities, and must submit an application packet (application, two recommendations, and high school transcript) by 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 17.

Randolph Community College Sets Kickboxing BEAST Course Beginning Jan. 21
Randolph Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division is debuting a new exercise course just in time to help with New Year’s resolutions to get fit — “Kickboxing BEAST.”
The Kickboxing BEAST course, scheduled for 9-10 a.m. on Saturdays, Jan. 21 through March 18 at the Asheboro Campus, is fun. Set to upbeat music, Kickboxing BEAST classes are a great alternative to monotonous running or elliptical exercise. Instructor Tammy Owens is an energetic trainer who keeps you from being bored by challenging your mind and your body.

Randolph Community College announces the President’s List, Dean’s List, and Academic Merit List for the 2016 fall semester.
Curriculum students enrolled in 12 credit hours for the semester excluding college preparatory hours and proficiency hours who receive no incompletes and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 are eligible to be recognized on the following lists:
President’s List - GPA of 4.00
Dean’s List - GPA of 3.50-3.99
Curriculum students enrolled in at least six but less than 12 credit hours for the semester excluding college preparatory hours and proficiency hours who receive no incompletes and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and earn a grade point average of 3.50 – 4.00 are eligible to be recognized on the Academic Merit List.
