RCC Campus Store Involved in National Study – Survey Dates Oct. 3-21

Randolph Community College’s Campus Store is currently participating in Student Watch™, a national research initiative that gauges college student attitudes and behaviors concerning course materials, online learning and technology.

Student Watch is funded by the NACS Foundation, a subsidiary of the National Association of College Stores.

RCC students are encouraged to participate in the survey by going to www.studentwatch.org from Oct. 3 through Oct. 21. As an incentive to participate, one respondent from RCC’s campus will win $50 gift card to the campus store. Additionally, one participant will win an “RCC Spirit Pack” including some great RCC clothes and merchandise. Every student who completes the survey at participating schools across the country will be entered to win a grand prize of $1,000.

“We are excited to take part in this national research initiative,” said Chad Conville, director of auxiliary services for RCC. “On a local level, the results of the survey will help our store better meet student needs and evaluate our performance.”

The study is being conducted on more than 60 campuses across the United States and Canada, with a focus on helping college stores better understand the evolution of course materials, how they can best support their students, and how technology and online learning will play a role in the future of higher education.

The survey link will also be sent to students via their RCC email accounts. For more information, please contact the RCC Campus Store at 336-633-0236.

Randolph Community College Invites Students to Participate in FAFSA Day Oct. 29

Randolph Community College will be participating in FAFSA Day for the 2017-2018 academic year on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016.

The free FAFSA Day is taking place earlier than in years past, according to Joey Trogdon, assistant director of financial aid and veterans affairs for RCC, because of federal regulation changes. Students can file their FAFSAs earlier, as early as Oct. 1, 2016, rather than beginning on Jan. 1, 2017, and students can use earlier income information. For the 2017-18 FAFSA, students (and parents, as appropriate) will report their 2015 income information, rather than their 2016 income information.

On FAFSA Day, college financial aid officers and other volunteers will help students complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) forms over the internet. FAFSA Day is a program offered by College Foundation of North Carolina and the North Carolina Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators each year.

The program is open to students who plan to attend college in the 2017-18 academic year. RCC’s event will be held from 9 a.m.-noon, Oct. 29, in Rooms 106 and 108 of the Continuing Education and Industrial Center on the Asheboro Campus. The event is free and students should register for FAFSA Day by calling the College Foundation of North Carolina toll free at 1-866-866-CFNC or by going to http://www.cfnc.org/FAFSAday.

Participants should bring their completed 2015 federal 1040 tax forms and W-2 forms (dependent students should bring a copy of their parents’ completed 2015 federal 1040 tax forms and W-2 forms). In addition to tax information, each student and one parent of a dependent should obtain a FSA ID prior to FAFSA Day from the U.S. Department of Education at https://fsaid.ed.gov/.

It is helpful (though not required) for attendees to complete as much of the 2017-18 FAFSA on the Web Worksheet as possible and then bring it with them on FAFSA Day.

RCC’s Continuing Education and Industrial Center is located at 413 Industrial Park Avenue.

ACS, RCC, RCSS Announce Second “Pathways to Prosperity” Project

Asheboro City Schools, Randolph Community College, and the Randolph County School System unveiled a second pathway in their partnership project, Pathways to Prosperity, at a joint press conference on Aug. 24 in RCC’s Health & Science Center.

The project is based on a report, “Pathways to Prosperity: Meeting the Challenge of Preparing Young Americans for the 21st Century,” released in 2011 by the Harvard Graduate School of Education. In the report, school systems are “called to align Career & Technical Education (CTE) courses with area and state labor market demands and create a system of career-focused pathways that span the last years of high school and at least one year of postsecondary education or training that leads to an industry-recognized certification or credential.”

The three school systems debuted the project in 2015 with four pathways for advanced manufacturing jobs. The latest initiative will focus on health care jobs.
