Veterinary Assisting Course Begins Feb. 19 at Randolph Community College Randleman Center

Pet owners often struggle with the decision of when or if to take their pet to the veterinarian when vague symptoms occur. Randolph Community College's "Veterinary Assisting" course will give you the knowledge you need to make informed decisions about your pet's welfare. It is also a great basic course for those exploring the idea of working as a veterinary assistant.

This course consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction with an 8-hour volunteer experience. Students are expected to complete the volunteer experience within the ten-week course schedule. Course topics will include nutrition, care, handling, and restraint of small animals. Other topics will cover anatomy and physiology, diseases, neoplasia, toxicities, preventive health and wellness, and surgical room procedures.

"Discover Your Genealogy" Courses Set To Begin in February at Randolph Community College

Randolph Community College is offering several genealogy courses, the first beginning in February, designed to provide students with the skills to research their ancestors and build their family trees.
 
"Discover Your Genealogy I - Growing Your Family Tree" is an introductory course teaching terminology and techniques designed to start students in discovering their family histories. Students will advance their researching skills through internet databases and historical documents. The class will meet from 9 a.m.-12 noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Feb. 13 through Feb. 22.

Randolph Community College Reveals Renovated Photography Facility

Randolph Community College opened its renovated Photographic Technology facility on Wednesday, drawing a crowd of over 200 to the ribbon cutting and open house at the Asheboro Campus. Attendees included members of the College's Board of Trustees and Foundation Board, elected officials, members of the Asheboro/Randolph Chamber of Commerce, the Randolph County Economic Development Corporation, college personnel, former instructors, and alumni of the program.

Randolph Community College Introduction to QuickBooks Course Set to Begin Jan. 30

Randolph Community College Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division will offer a "QuickBooks, Introduction" course beginning Jan. 30.

In this course, students will learn how to do accounting for their businesses using this popular accounting software. Topics will include using special journals and subsidiary ledgers, and generating professional financial statements.

The course will meet from 6-8 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, Jan. 30 through March 8, in room 106 of the Continuing Education and Industrial Center. The cost is $70. For more information or to register, call 336-633-0268.

RCC Randleman Center Offers ServSafe Class for Restaurant Workers

Randolph Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division will offer restaurant workers a chance to earn their ServSafe certificate at the Randleman Center in January.

The class (section #64309) will meet from 5-9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, Jan. 29 and 30, and from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Randolph Community College Foundation Seeks Applicants for Presidential Scholar Program; Deadline is Feb. 23

The Randolph Community College Foundation will award two-year RCC scholarships to five high school seniors in Randolph County in 2018 through its Presidential Scholar program. The students will be chosen in a competitive process that includes an application packet and interviews, according to Joyce Wolford, director of foundation operations. This is the seventh year of the program.

High school seniors who live in Randolph County and attend a Randolph County public, private, or home school are invited to apply. To be considered, students must plan to enroll at RCC in the fall of 2018, have an unweighted GPA of at least 3.0, participate in extracurricular/community activities, and must submit an application packet (application, two recommendations, and high school transcript) by 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23.

Auto Body Repair Basics Course Set to Begin Jan. 22 at Randolph Community College

Randolph Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division is offering an “Auto Body Repair Basics” course beginning this month designed to prepare students for entry-level positions in the auto body repair field.

Students will be taught how to identify and describe the current types of body/frame construction; evaluate vehicle damage through proper application of measuring and gauging equipment and sequencing techniques; and return vehicle to pre-accident condition. Upon completion, students will have the knowledge base to perform hands-on repairs in the areas of nonstructural repairs, MIG welding, plastics and adhesives, refinishing, and other related areas.

This course will meet from 5:30-9:30 p.m., Mondays and Tuesdays, Jan. 22 through May 7, in the Richard Petty Education Center on the Asheboro Campus. The cost is $180.55
