Human Resources Recertification Courses Set for Aug./Sept. at Randolph Community College

Randolph Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division is offering a series of courses on the Asheboro Campus this fall designed for human resource professionals to earn recertification credits.

“Impact 365: Managing & Aligning Your Personal, HR, and Organization Brands” will address how to manage one’s professional brand, leverage the HR function’s brand, and influence the organization’s brand, while strategically aligning all three. This class has been approved as 3.75 Business recertification credit hours through HR Certification Institute® (HRCI®). The class (#66864) will meet from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 9. The cost for the course is $70.

Learn “Acrylic Pour Painting” in Randolph Community College Class Beginning Aug. 6

Randolph Community College will offer a class in “Acrylic Pour Painting” beginning Aug. 6 taught by instructor Victoria Pierce. Acrylic pour painting is the art of mixing two or more paint colors in the same container, pouring them onto a canvas or other medium in a desired pattern, then using gravity to move the paint around creating interesting and sometimes surprising colors and results.

The class will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Mondays, Aug. 6 through Sept. 10, in Room 102 of the Building Trades Center on the Asheboro Campus. The cost is $55.55. Students will be provided with a supply list upon registration.

Randolph CC Offers Nail Art Course for Licensed Cosmetologists/Nail Technicians on Aug. 6

Randolph Community College Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division will offer an “Inlaid Nail Art with Gel” course on Monday, Aug. 6, on the Asheboro Campus.

This course, designed as continuing education for licensed cosmetologists and licensed nail technicians, will demonstrate how to perform inlaid designs with the use of hard gel products and embellishments. Students will learn how inlaid nail art with gel can increase income in their salons, set themselves apart significantly from other stylists, assist in building more/loyal clientele, and inspire creativity.

The course will meet from 2-5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6, in the RCC Cosmetology Center at 503 Industrial Park Avenue. The cost is $40.55. For more information or to register, call 336-633-0268.

Randolph Community College’s Health and Wellness Coach Program Celebrates First Graduates

Randolph Community College celebrated the first graduates in its Health and Wellness Coach pilot program on June 27, the first program of its kind offered by a North Carolina Community College. The 120-hour course is designed to provide graduates the basic knowledge, tools, and resources to work under the supervision of licensed professionals supporting individuals to improve their personal health. The class prepares students to sit for the Center for Credentialing & Education’s (CCE) Board Certified Coach (BCC) exam.

Eleven students completed the new program, which was funded by an $8,900 grant from the Randolph County Board of Commissioners that covered student scholarships, instructor costs, books and materials, and course development. The College worked closely with Randolph County Wellness Administrator Sam Varner in developing the program. Varner was also among the first graduates.

Randolph Community College to Offer Forklift Operator Training August 4

Randolph Community College will offer a Saturday course on forklift operation next month. “Forklift Operator Training” will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 4, in Room 223 at the Continuing Education and Industrial Center on RCC’s Asheboro Campus.

This course provides instruction on the operation and maintenance of a Powered Industrial Truck (forklift). It is OSHA compliant and taught by a State of North Carolina certified instructor. It is a comprehensive, hands-on program that covers all aspects of lift truck training. A certificate of completion will be provided to all students who successfully complete the course. Students should wear sturdy closed toe and heel shoes (no crocs or flip-flops) and appropriate clothing for the weather conditions as the hands-on portion will be outside.

Participants must be 18 years of age or older to enroll in this class. The cost of the course is $70.55.

Dart Foundation Awards Over $100,000 to Randolph Community College

The Randolph Community College Foundation recently received a $100,395 grant from the Dart Foundation to purchase a coordinate measuring machine and certification cart to be used in the Computer-Integrated Machining (CIM) and advanced manufacturing programs at the College, according to Lorie McCroskey, director of development.

The Dart Foundation is a private family foundation established by Dart Container Corporation founder William A. Dart and his wife Claire T. Dart. The Foundation supports projects that enhance education, especially in the areas of science, technology, engineering and math, and those that improve the quality of life in specific communities.

First Randolph County AMP Camp Concludes at Randolph Community College

Seventeen rising 8th and 9th graders and 20 middle and high school teachers learned about advanced manufacturing in the first AMP (Advanced Manufacturing Pathway) Camp last week, sponsored by Asheboro City Schools, Randolph Community College, and the Randolph County School System. The free AMP Camp was made possible through the Catalyzing Career and Technical Education grant, according to Stacey Miller, pathways activities coordinator for RCC.

During the week of June 18-21, the students and teachers were given an overview and demonstration of the Computer-Integrated Machining, Electrical Systems/Mechatronics, and Welding Technology programs offered at RCC, visited area manufacturing industries, and created projects in RCC labs.
