RCC Announces 2016 Summer Session Academic Standing Lists

Randolph Community College announces the President’s List, Dean’s List, and Academic Merit List for the 2016 summer session.

Curriculum students enrolled in 12 credit hours for the semester excluding college preparatory hours and proficiency hours who receive no incompletes and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 are eligible to be recognized on the following lists:
President’s List - GPA of 4.00
Dean’s List - GPA of 3.50-3.99

Curriculum students enrolled in at least six but less than 12 credit hours for the semester excluding college preparatory hours and proficiency hours who receive no incompletes and have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0 and earn a grade point average of 3.50 – 4.00 are eligible to be recognized on the Academic Merit List.

Sara Michael
Sara Kathleen Michael of Liberty has been awarded the Randolph Community College Foundation Retiree Scholarship for the 2016-2017 school year. The scholarship was established to honor retired RCC faculty and staff members.

Michael, a graduate of Providence Grove High School, plans to study nursing at RCC. She was chosen from among the 2016-2017 Presidential Scholar applicants for the $1,000 scholarship.

RCC Trustees Honor Dr. Alan Luria With 2016 Distinguished Service Award

Dr. Alan Luria, a retired Trustee and former member of the RCC Foundation Board, was honored by the Randolph Community College Board of Trustees on July 21 with the 2016 Distinguished Service Award prior to the Board’s annual meeting at the Asheboro Campus. Dr. Luria served on the RCC Board of Trustees from July 1999 until June 2014.

RCC Board of Trustees Chair Mac Sherrill said that during Dr. Luria’s time on the board, “He never hesitated to advocate for Randolph Community College.”

He noted that Dr. Luria was also instrumental in founding RCC’s Student Leadership Academy, which was renamed for him and Dr. Stuart Fountain, the other founding donor. He continues to donate faithfully each year to the Fountain-Luria Student Leadership Academy. “We are honored to recognize his passion for students and our community college,” said Sherrill.

State Employees Credit Union Foundation Funds RCC Continuing Education Scholarships

Randolph Community College’s Workforce Development and Continuing Education Division has received funding from the State Employees Credit Union Foundation for 10 Continuing Education scholarships for the 2016-2017 school year. Ten students will be eligible for scholarships of $750 each. This is the fourth year that the SECU Foundation has provided these scholarship funds to RCC.

Pfeiffer University Education Open House Aug. 3 at RCC Asheboro Campus

Pfeiffer University’s Division of Education will host an open house on Wednesday, Aug. 3 at Randolph Community College, from 4-6 p.m., for adults interested earning a bachelor of arts in elementary education or bachelor of arts in special education and becoming licensed teachers. Classes will start on Aug. 15 at RCC. The informational meeting will be held in the Administration/Education Center, Room 109, on RCC’s Asheboro Campus.

Randolph Community College Foundation Announces 2016-17 Presidential Scholars

Five outstanding Randolph County high school students have been chosen in a competitive process as Presidential Scholars at Randolph Community College for the 2016-2017 school year. Abigail Jordan Baynes of Asheboro, a home school graduate; Megan Esla Faulkner of Southwestern Randolph High School; Chasity Lou Hartke of Randleman High School; Alyssa Brook Hollady of Faith Christian School; and Morgan Rhae Kinney of Eastern Randolph High School will receive two-year RCC scholarships through the Presidential Scholars program funded by the Randolph Community College Foundation.

Rohrbaugh Named Randolph Community College Vice President for Instructional Services

Suzanne Y. Rohrbaugh has joined Randolph Community College as vice president for instructional services. In this position, Rohrbaugh will serve as RCC’s chief academic officer and provide leadership for and oversight of the development, management, assessment, and quality improvement of the College’s curriculum instructional programs and services including certificate, diploma, and degree credit programs; developmental education; distance learning; and learning resources/library.

Basic Welding Courses Scheduled for July, Aug., Oct. at RCC Asheboro and Archdale

Students wanting to learn basic welding skills can take advantage of a Basic Welding course at Randolph Community College’s Asheboro Campus or the Archdale Center, with sections starting in July, August and October.

The first section (#58217) will meet from 6-9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, July 25-Aug. 4, on the Asheboro Campus. Two classes are set for the Archdale Center: the first (#58233) will meet from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Saturdays, Aug. 20, Aug. 27, Sept. 10 and Sept. 17; and the second will meet from 8 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Saturdays, Oct. 22, Oct. 29, Nov. 5 and Nov. 12.

This class is designed to teach basic Gas Metal Arc welding safety, fundamentals and techniques. The class is a required prerequisite to the Continuing Education MIG 1 class.

The total cost of the course is $110.55. Call 336-862-7980 to register.

Randolph Community College Portrait Photo Students To Showcase Work July 20-22

Randolph Community College’s 2016 Portrait Studio Management students are inviting the public to view their final portfolios at the school July 20-22.

The portfolios will be available for viewing in the 2nd-year portrait bays in the Photography Imaging Center on the Asheboro Campus from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Wednesday and Thursday, July 20 and 21, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. on Friday, July 22.

Portfolios from the following students will be on display (all hometowns are North Carolina unless otherwise indicated): Rebekah Cross, Charlotte; Chelsea Mehalek, Efland; Sarah Mitchell, Rockwell; Javas Reid, Greensboro; Melea Schneider, Greensboro; and Tasha Thomas, Durham.
