A Student Leadership Academy team at Randolph Community College is planning a "Care to Share?" event on Friday, March 18 to raise awareness of the homeless and hungry in Randolph County and collect food, clothing, and sleeping bags to donate to various community charities.
One of the requirements of RCC's Student Leadership Academy is for each student team to identify a need in the community and devise a way to meet that need. The team, consisting of Shane Bryson of Thomasville, Shirley Landry of Trinity, Brooke Baxter of Denton, and Emily Smith of Asheboro, has elicited help for their project from the RCC Student Government Association and other student groups. They plan to simulate homelessness by "camping" outside the Foundation Conference Center from 8 a.m., Friday, March 18, until 8 a.m., Saturday, March 19.
Donations will be accepted all this week, with collection boxes set up on both the Asheboro Campus and at the Archdale Center. Clothing will be donated to the Salvation Army, canned food to Christians United Outreach Center, and sleeping bags to Central Carolina Community Church (C4) of Asheboro. Area residents and students can also drop off donations the day of the event at the Foundation Conference Center.
